“Yesterday, things
were different
Today, they’re different again
Jesus will never, never
change
Jesus is always the same.”
This song keeps playing over and
over in my mind. I heard the new Florida Boys sing their version of the song
up in Benton, AR on June 14th. They have a good sound and I have always
liked the song. Close harmony always impresses me and Charlie Waller, Dustin
Bearden, Buddy Burton, and “Chip” Cooper did a close harmony concert with Joshua Pope at the piano. He even had on red socks or “long handles” as he wore boots and I couldn’t say which
it was! Charlie made a remark about him being too warm with that red underwear
on.
The old Florida Boys having retired,
this was my first chance to hear the new group. Lee, Glenn & Derrell would
be proud of the replacement group but I would still like to see them again.
The Dove Brothers were also on
the program and McCray still makes me tired just watching “Didn’t It Rain”.
I bet he gets lots of practice jumping and running after Andrew and Matthew who are nearing two years of age.
David Hester is still a fine bass
singer and I do enjoy hearing them all sing so much. They all dress alike and
look so handsome too.
The others on the stage were quite
talented too! Of course I had seen and heard the Melody Boys Quartet at Geyer
Springs Baptist Church back on May 13th. MeLinda Harris drove me to
that one for Mother’s Day. I treated myself and what a treat! I saw Jeremy Raines and his twin daughters, Mike Franklin and Jonathan Sawrie with their wives. It was so good to see and hear them again! I also met Tim
Williams the new tenor singer and I was thrilled to hear all of that good harmony.
Another group there was Southern
Sound from Nashville, TN. I had been hearing them at Grand Ol Gospel but since
I missed last year it was really great to see and hear them again. They are the
ones I tried to claim kin with the first time I met Ben Harris. He is a terrific
lead singer.
They will be at Grand Ol Gospel
Reunion in Knoxville, TN along with the Trav’lers and all of the groups. I
sure want to go but unless something changes I can’t afford to go. I asked
Charlie if he would buy my gas when he said, “You ought to come”. Maybe
I will receive a “stimulus check” from our President. He did send
a card on my 60th wedding anniversary!
We have a new great-grandson born
May 15th to Chrissy and Mark Rich. His name is Drew Harrison Rich. Jerry Lynn and Vickie Harris are the proud grandparents. Life goes on and we’re still here so keep on singing.
